WhatsApp (Social media)
Tech News: The world's most popular messaging app, WhatsApp, has announced a big change from June 1, 2025. The company has announced that WhatsApp will now stop working on some older iPhones and Android smartphones. This step has been taken keeping in mind the security of the users, as older operating systems are no longer receiving security updates. Due to this, WhatsApp will now only support devices with new and updated versions.
Under this new policy of WhatsApp, WhatsApp support will end on iPhones with iOS 15 or older versions. Similarly, WhatsApp will also stop working on devices with Android 5.0 or older operating systems. The list of affected phones includes iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 series, first-generation iPhone SE, Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Sony Xperia Z1, LG G2, Huawei Ascend P6, and some older Motorola devices.
The company has clearly stated that security patches and updates are no longer available on the old operating system. Without security updates, users' data and privacy can be at serious risk. Old software has a higher risk of bugs and hacking, which can lead to theft or misuse of users' personal data. Therefore, WhatsApp has decided that they will only support devices that are running on the latest operating system.
If your phone is going to be affected by this change, there is no need to panic, but it is important to be cautious. WhatsApp has advised all users to back up their chat history as soon as possible. For this, go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup in WhatsApp and save your chats in Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iPhone). After this backup, you can easily recover your old chats on the new phone.
WhatsApp is constantly working on increasing its security. Recently the company has launched many new features, such as Chat Lock, which allows you to lock any of your chats with a password or fingerprint. The disappearing message feature is now more customized, allowing you to decide how long your message will be visible and when it will disappear automatically. Apart from this, it will no longer be possible to copy any content in the chat without permission, which will prevent misuse of your personal information.
After June 1, 2025, WhatsApp will stop working on older iPhones and Android devices. This decision is necessary for security reasons so that users' data can remain safe. If your device falls in this list, then take a chat backup as soon as possible and update your phone or prepare to buy a new phone. Along with this change, WhatsApp has also introduced many new features to strengthen user privacy, which will make your conversation even more secure
